February Chimes

Dear Friends,

Lent begins this year on Ash Wednesday, February 10, and I wanted to give you a preview of our Wednesday Evening Lenten Series. The theme of this year’s journey will be…

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.”
John 1:5

“In Christian literature, light is a metaphor for God’s very self and for all that is related to God: creation, the word, Christ, salvation, and the baptized life… Many intensely metaphorical biblical passages, such as Genesis 1, the Psalms, the poems in Isaiah, John, and Johannine epistles, and Revelation are filled with light images.”
(from “Treasures Old and New” by Gail Ramshaw)

Our schedule of preachers will be…
Wednesday, February 17- The Reverend Richard Wohlschlaeger
Former Pastor, Swarthmore Presbyterian Church

Wednesday, February 24- The Reverend Dr. Kris Peterson
Interim Pastor, St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, Trappe

Wednesday, March 2- The Reverend Regina Goodrich
Pastor, Mediator Lutheran Church, Philadelphia

Wednesday, March 9- The Reverend Dr. James Pollard
Pastor, Zion Baptist Church, Ardmore

Wednesday, March 16- “Light in Deepest Night”
a Lenten meditation based on the writings of Julian of Norwich presented by the choirs of St. Paul’s Church

We developed this theme based on the final Wednesday’s presentation by our choirs, “Light in Deepest Night.” This will be a wonderful and stirring conclusion to our 2016 Lenten Series.

In Christ,
Pastor Skip McDowell
