A special congregational meeting has been called for Sunday, January 22, the sole purpose of which is to consider and vote on a call to Pastor Laura Tancredi to serve as sole pastor of St. Paul’s. So that we can deliberate as a community, the meeting will follow immediately after a single service at 9:30 am. A deputy representing Bishop Burkat, bishop for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod, will conduct the meeting.
Throughout the transition process Congregational Council has had the benefit of significant input from the congregation – both formal and informal.
Congregational feedback started at the individual level with the Missional Assessment Profile survey completed by over 100 members. Those responses
painted a picture of the role of St. Paul’s in the spiritual lives of our members, present strengths and shortcomings and hopes and expectations for the future.
The small group cottage dinners organized by the Stewardship Committee provided feedback from a less structured setting. The core values exercise led
by our interim consultant, Pastor Jack Saarela, afforded the entire congregation the opportunity to identify the core values that make St. Paul’s a unique place.
The vision shaped by those core values:
Liturgical worship characterized by inspiring music and powerful preaching
Fellowship and meaningful connections among members
Compassionate service and outreach to the community
Inclusive welcome to all people
guided Council in the final stages of determining the qualities, characteristics and capabilities of the pastoral resources to realize that vision.
As we said in announcing the proposed call, Council has been impressed with the talents and spirit that Pastor Laura has demonstrated during her years as
Associate Pastor, particularly during the last seven months while serving as pastor following Pastor Skip’s retirement. We are confident that Pastor Laura has the capacity to grow to be an exceptional pastor and to grow with St. Paul’s as we as a body in Christ strive to embody our core values. We are committed to providing additional resources to help us realize that future.
As always, final decision on the call of a pastor rests with the congregation. All confirmed members are eligible to vote. We look forward to seeing everyone at
the special meeting.
