Dear Friends:

Every year when I sit down to write my June Chimes article, I find myself thinking about the young people in this congregation. Perhaps that is because I am always working on worship for Vacation Bible School at this time of year. Our VBS theme this year is Everest: Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power! Everest VBS will be held June 22-26. As I’ve said many times, this is one of my favorite weeks of the year!

So for my message this month, I wanted to share with you each of the daily “Bible Points” for the five days of our journey. Each Point is connected to a biblical story. All are about how God helps us overcome obstacles and difficult journeys.

God has the power to provide… Monday we will see how God provides for us no matter what the need, no matter what the obstacle. Today our Bible Expedition will show us how God provided of Elijah under the broomtree.

God has the power to comfort… Tuesday we will see how God comforts us when we hurt, and how we are to comfort others in their discomfort. Today’s Bible Expedition will place us with Elijah again, this time up on the mountain!

God has the power to heal… Wednesday we will see how we are all in need of healing, sometimes in our body and other times in our heart. Today our Bible Expedition will show us how God healed Naaman of leprosy.

God has the power to forgive… Thursday we will see that God is willing to forgive us no matter what! Today in Bible Expedition we will learn how Jesus died on a cross to forgive us.

God has the power to love us forever… Friday we will learn that after Good Friday there was Easter which means God’s love is stronger than death. Our Bible Expedition will be about our eternal home in God.

Hope these messages from Everest trigger some thoughts and meditations for you as you go about your daily tasks.

In Christ,
Pastor Skip McDowell
