My Dear Friends-
First, let me say “thanks” for the wonderful Celebration of Ministry picnic and fun time on Sunday, May 22. I so appreciated all the time and effort that went into that wonderful event. Thanks for the book of pictures, the many letters and cards, all of the work it took to make that day happen! Our kids and their spouses are still talking about May 22.
But I am thankful for more…
“I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy…
because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day.” Philippians 1:3-5
These words of St. Paul to the Philippians have been going through my mind as my ministry comes to an end here in Ardmore. Let me say “thank you” for your partnership; for your “sharing in the gospel from the first day!” This has been very much a shared ministry.
I thank you for your openness to trying new things. I thank you for sharing your visions and dreams. I thank you for your welcoming attitude in opening the doors of St. Paul’s to all of God’s children. I thank you for living out the scripture which says, “My house shall be a house of prayer for all peoples!” (Isaiah 56:7) Or the hymn: “All are welcome in this place.” (ELW 641)
I thank you for the ways you have ministered to Pam and me and our family. In the years I have been a pastor here at St. Paul’s, we’ve lost family members, and you were there for us. In these years, we’ve also gained five grandchildren, and you’ve welcomed them into this community.
In short, I am thankful for your partnership in ministry! In Christ,
Pastor Skip McDowell
